  Places to See:
Playa Negra - This is the beach a half mile from the house and is arguably the second best wave in Costa Rica, and the crowds that are sometimes their indicate just that. But it is a great right point that breaks over a lava rock reef. The beach is amazing and there are always tide pools at low tide amongst all the rocks that have great sea life. It is a beautiful laid back beach that you often can have much of to yourself, since all the others will be out surfing. Just to the left of the break is a sandy beach which is good for swimming, since it is all sand bottom.

  • Piko Negro - (Joel’s restaurant) - He makes great pizza, far better than Pizza hut, Dominos or Papa John’s. Plus you can get some great pastas and salads. And of course, beer and rum drinks.
  • Mono Congo - Nice place to have dinner with a changing menu, but here you will find great seafood, steaks, salads, and much more. Plus they have wine. The price will be much more than some of the other places but the food is great and Kim and Justin who own it are great.
  • Buy your own Fish - Just a short ways down the beach is where the local fishermen bring in their catch every day around 4:30 or 5, there specialty is Red Snapper. And the price is great and well it is the freshest fish you can get. Ask Joel for driving directions. It's only about 2km from the house. Also if you want anything else like Lobster, Tuna, etc. ask Joel he can probably get it for you nice and fresh if it is in season.

Playa Junquillal - Is a great beach break spot with good waves when it breaks. The waves here have great shape with plenty of barrels on a good day, and you can usually find a right or a left depending on what you want. Usually best from mid tide to high and high to mid. It is also great beach that stretches as far as the eye can see and at times is hard to find another person within sight. This is a great place to unwind with just a few friends or by yourself if you want a beach to yourself.
Located about 8km from the house about a 10 minute drive

Playa Allevanas - Is a great beach break spot with a ton of breaks up and down the beach. There is a fun left at mid to high and high to mid tide in front of the parking lot. Also there is a river mouth a bit farther down, and even farther down is a spot called Little Hawaii, that is a right that is often a lot of fun at low tide. But you will find more than enough waves scattered up and down this beach. Also there is a great bar and chill area at this beach where you can get food, drinks and more. Plus the atmosphere is great with amazing palm trees and plenty of places to sit. Also say hello to the 300 plus pound pig that hangs out here, don’t worry she won’t hurt you.
Located about 4km from the house

Playa Tamarindo - This is where you want to go to enjoy the party. It is a touristy beach spot with plenty of vacationers. But if you are looking for a bunch of restaurants and a bars this is the place to be. It is always fun to go there and enjoy the dancing and lively atmosphere, after completely relaxing for a couple days around Negra.
There are some waves here as well. Mostly beach break with a lot of different waves to choose from.
